Why should they be combined? Eva/Tina and Umbra/Crixus have a deep emotional connection before anything else. In all walks of life, Umbra/Crixus was Eva/Tina's animal companion and bodyguard but in their past lives Umbra was like a big brother to Eva while Umbra saw Eva as his own pup. In the current incarnation, Tina is lives alone having only Crixus as a friend while Crixus was taken in by Tina after his original master passed away thus making Tina his current master. Finally, as the Echoes bring the two back to their full strength Umbra/Crixus becomes tied to Eva/Tina on a spiritual level and draws power and life force from her. If he is away from her for extended periods of time Umbra/Crixus will slowly lose strength and can even die.
